Growth is the best word I can give to sum up our brotherhood here at Arkansas State University. To begin with, there is growth of the individual. In my time as a brother, I have grown into a different man than I was before. I have been able to acquire many new skills in communication, management, and most importantly leadership, but all the while, I have enjoyed a strong brotherly push in the right direction and a wonderful group of brothers that I can lean on to keep me on the right path. That is the core of Lambda Chi Alpha here at Arkansas State. Every day I wake up with pride knowing that I share an unbelievable brotherly bond with 87 other men, all constantly pushing one another to the best possible man that they could ever be. That is how the word growth is applicable to the group of men as a whole. We constantly grow together through our true brotherhood and are constantly improving that brotherhood with better members and true brotherly love.
My time as president thus far has been both a great deal of hard work and very rewarding. We began this fall with an amazing work ethic, which translated to an equally as amazing recruitment. When all was said and done with our associate member process, we initiated 32 great new members into our bond. We prided ourselves during our recruitment time because all of the young men who were extended a bid into our organization all had a 3.0 GPA or above.
To continue with our scholarly endeavors, our chapter held a 3.15 cumulative GPA this semester, which was second of all fraternities here at Arkansas State University. We also had 7 members (myself included) who maintained 4.0 GPA’s this semester which shows how much we stress the importance of good grades and once again being the best possible man that anyone can be.
Our other accomplishments this year included winning the “Best Men On Campus” award for the seventh year straight! This semester we also had three brothers get voted onto the IFC board for Arkansas State. These brothers are Howard Watts, Carter Lee, and “IFC President” Dylan Bateman. Our chapter currently has more members on the IFC board than any other chapter. This semester we were also able to raise upwards of 7,000 dollars in philanthropy! The majority was donated to Jonesboro’s CASA program, and the rest will be donated at the end of the year to St. Jude Children’s hospital after our spring fundraising.
There were also some new and exciting things that we accomplished this past semester. For the first time since they were set, our chapter was able to meet all twelve standards of operation that our headquarters sets for us which in turn translated to an amazing Educational Leader Consultant report, which has put us in the light nationally and is opening doors for us to begin new national programs which will turn us into an upper tier chapter on the national level. Also this year we were able to raise enough money to have a White Rose formal for the first time in four years. It was held in Kansas City, Missouri, and we had a beautiful banquet hosted by the Westin Hotel at Crown Center.
As we go into this new semester I know I will continue to be proud of brothers and the work they are constantly putting into the betterment of our bond as well as many other aspects of our fraternity. I definitely see more good news and accomplishment on the way, and most importantly, more growth and a stronger brotherhood tomorrow than even today.
